Background Information:

TSBA has recommended an amendment to Board Policy #1.808, Registered Sex Offenders, to comply with recent changes to TCA §40-39-201, et seq. These changes allow sex offenders to enter onto school property for the limited purposes of making deliveries and attend parent/teacher conferences. An additional prohibition prevents registered sex offenders from loitering within 500’ of school buildings or grounds. The struck-through wording is recommended to be deleted from our current policy, while the underlined wording is recommended to be added to our current policy.

Staff Recommendation:

I recommend approval of the proposed amendment to Board Policy #1.808, Registered Sex Offenders, on second and final reading.
